Corporate carbon accounting
Turn operational records into a corporate carbon inventory.
Define organizational boundaries and emission sources, then organize Scope 1, Scope 2 and relevant Scope 3 data for targets, management and disclosure.
Organizational boundary
Map entities, business units and operating sites, agreeing on consolidation and reporting year.
Emission sources
Classify direct emissions, purchased energy and value-chain activities with clear data sources and owners.
Repeatable management
Maintain records, assumptions and changes to support annual updates and internal collaboration.
Create a consistent annual group record
Corporate accounting supports teams establishing a baseline, answering customers or preparing targets and disclosure. Multiple entities, factories and leased sites need an agreed consolidation approach, year and boundary. Carbonstop connects organizational accounting with continuing management so the annual result remains traceable to facilities and activities. A group total needs consistent definitions, while site-level detail helps operations teams understand their sources and provides records that can be reviewed during future updates.
Assign ownership by emissions source
Direct sources may include fuel consumption and relevant process or fugitive emissions. Purchased electricity and heat need consumption records. Value-chain categories need assessment against the actual business. Administration, factories, finance, procurement and logistics each hold different evidence. A source-and-owner register can identify invoices, logs, reporting periods and units. This gives individual departments a concrete collection task instead of asking every team to produce an undefined set of carbon data.
Improve value-chain data in stages
Scope 3 work can begin with category screening and initial hotspots before improving evidence for influential categories. Spending, physical quantities, transport records and supplier data serve different purposes. Explaining the chosen approach helps prioritize achievable collection work. When corporate and product studies share records, check their objects and allocation rules. Product results should not simply be added together and assumed to represent the complete corporate value-chain inventory.
Retain the rules needed for next year
Agreed outputs can include a boundary statement, source register, calculation records, annual report and data-improvement recommendations. Continuing management also needs records of organizational changes, factor versions and baseline adjustments so differences can be explained. First-year templates provide a starting point for future updates. If Ccloud or another tool is considered, its use should fit existing maintenance responsibilities; adopting software is not itself evidence that the inventory is complete.
Present the result for different teams
Management needs overall emissions and priorities. Factories need energy and process information. Procurement needs value-chain hotspots. Reporting teams need consistent definitions and complete evidence. Organizing results around those uses makes them easier to act on. Bring an entity and site list, sample energy and procurement records, any previous report and customer requests. These inputs support a discussion about staged coverage and the records that most urgently need improvement.

FAQ
Questions before you decide.
Can the group and subsidiaries prepare separate inventories?
Yes, with clear boundaries and consolidation rules. When subsidiary records enter the group inventory, review internal transactions, shared facilities and duplication so the group total and site-level results can be reconciled and explained.
What does incomplete Scope 3 data affect?
It can affect hotspot analysis, target coverage and disclosure explanations. Begin with category screening, identify influential gaps and improve evidence for the intended use. Distinguish estimates from more detailed data rather than presenting an initial assessment as complete value-chain assurance.
Does a lower annual total prove that measures worked?
Not on its own. Production, business structure, boundaries and factor updates can change the result. Separate these effects from implemented measures and explain the basis of comparison before attributing a change to a reduction action.
